Understanding Your GRA Certificate
Every moissanite we produce comes with a GRA grading report. Here is what it means, field by field.
What is a GRA certificate?
A GRA certificate is a gemological grading report issued for moissanite gemstones. Just as diamonds are graded by laboratories such as GIA, moissanite is assessed and documented on a GRA report. The certificate records your stone's physical characteristics and quality grades, so you always have an independent, verifiable record of exactly what you purchased.
Each certificate carries a unique GRA number. That same number is laser-inscribed on the girdle (the thin outer edge) of your stone, permanently linking the gemstone to its report. You can verify any GRA number on our home page — free and instant.
What is moissanite?
Moissanite is a gemstone made of silicon carbide. First discovered in a meteor crater by Nobel laureate Henri Moissan in 1893, it is now created in laboratories to jewelry-grade perfection. Moissanite is:
- Extremely hard — 9.25 on the Mohs scale, second only to diamond (10), so it resists scratching for a lifetime of wear.
- More brilliant than diamond — its refractive index (2.65–2.69) exceeds diamond's (2.42), producing exceptional sparkle and rainbow fire.
- Ethical and sustainable — lab-created with no mining involved.
- Excellent value — comparable beauty at a fraction of the price of diamond.
How to read each field on your report
| Field | What it means |
|---|---|
| GRA Number | The unique certificate ID, also laser-inscribed on your stone's girdle. Use it to verify your report on this website. |
| Stone Shape | The cut style of the stone — Round Brilliant, Princess, Oval, Cushion, Emerald, Pear, and more. |
| Measurements | The stone's dimensions in millimetres (length × width × depth). A 6.5 mm round is roughly equivalent to a 1-carat diamond. |
| Carat Weight | The stone's weight (1 carat = 0.2 g). Moissanite is lighter than diamond, so reports often state the diamond-equivalent size. |
| Color Grade | Graded D to Z like diamonds. D–F is colorless (the best), G–I near-colorless. Premium moissanite is typically D–F. |
| Clarity Grade | How free the stone is of internal inclusions: FL (flawless), IF, VVS1, VVS2, VS1, VS2. VVS1 and above appear flawless to the naked eye. |
| Cut Grade | How well the stone is faceted for light performance: Ideal / Excellent, Very Good, Good. Better cut means more sparkle. |
| Polish | The smoothness of each facet's surface after finishing, graded Excellent to Good. |
| Symmetry | How precisely the facets align and mirror one another, graded Excellent to Good. |
| Fluorescence | Whether the stone glows under ultraviolet light — typically None to Faint for moissanite, with no effect on daily appearance. |
Why verify your certificate?
- Confirm authenticity — make sure the certificate you received matches our official records.
- Check before you buy — verify a stone's grades before purchasing second-hand or from a reseller.
- Insurance & resale — a verifiable report supports appraisals, insurance, and future resale.
Verification is free and takes seconds — no account, no email, no charge. If your GRA number cannot be found, re-check the spelling first, then contact us on Instagram and we will verify it manually.
